📢 I am pleased to share that I have been selected as a disaster risk management expert through the public call issued by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), to provide expert support to local self-government units (LSGs) in developing Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans.
🗓️ Implementation period: May – November 2025
🌍 Scope: 100 cities and municipalities across Serbia, divided into 10 regional groups
🎯 Goal: To strengthen local public health resilience and preparedness capacities by developing comprehensive and actionable plans aligned with the WHO model and national legislation.
This engagement is part of the broader IRA project “EU for the Health System of Serbia”, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr Milan Jovanović Batut”, with the support of the Ministry of the Interior (Sector for Emergency Situations) and SCTM.
🔬 The project builds upon the risk assessments conducted in 145 local governments in 2024 using WHO’s STAR methodology (Strategic Tool for Assessing Risks). These assessments now form the foundation for developing operational plans that will become integral parts of local protection and rescue plans, as well as the National Disaster Risk Register.
👨💼 As an expert, I will work directly with local authorities, public health institutions, and emergency services to help translate risk data into actionable, locally adapted plans that enhance coordination, preparedness, and response to various public health threats—including epidemics, environmental hazards, and other emergencies.
🚨 This project exemplifies the importance of intersectoral collaboration, risk-based planning, and capacity building at the local level to improve disaster risk management and health security.
